A Study of the Relationships between Employees Stock Ownership, Employees’ Dedication to Work, and the Meaning of Work for Employees – Taking Employees in the Hairdressing Industry as a Case Study

In recent years, the operating models of businesses have changed along with changes in social trends and labor force. Inviting employees to become employee shareholders is a win-win strategy adopted by organizations as a means to bring high spirit to employees. Choosing employees in the hairdressing industry as research participants, this study proposes to investigate whether an employee stock ownership plan has effective impact on employees’ dedication to work, and the meaning of work for employees. Meanwhile, this study also proposes to explore whether gender plays an interfering role in the relationship between employee stock ownership, employees’ dedication to work, and the meaning of work for employees. Verification results show that employee stock ownership has a positive effect on employees’ dedication to work and the meaning of work for employees. Gender has an interference effect on the relationship between employee stock ownership and employees’ dedication to work, as well as the relationship between employee stock ownership and the meaning of work for employees. Based on the above results, this study offers the following suggestions for businesses in real practice. In the future, companies should improve and perfect their employee stock ownership plan, and heighten employees’ satisfaction with stock ownership, in order to have a positive effect on employees’ dedication to work and the meaning of work for employees. In terms of human resources management in a company, a company may encourage male employees to participate in internal corporate entrepreneurship. In doing so, the company may satisfy male employees’ career aspirations. Meanwhile, the company should continue to encourage female employees to become employee shareholders in order to enhance both male and female employees’ dedication to work and the meaning at work for them, as well as to generate better management results for the company.
