Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub Launches in Calgary
On June 11, the Diversity Institute was thrilled to mark the Alberta launch of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) with partners at Mount Royal University in Calgary.
The full-day event kicked off with a warm welcome from Elizabeth Evans, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies at Mount Royal University. Hosted by ATB Financial, the launch included an interactive informational discussion to define the purpose of WEKH and assess the entrepreneurial climate in the province for women. It also incorporated breakout sessions designed to begin the mapping of Alberta’s ecosystem.
The room was filled with more than 50 people from industry, government, non-profit, and post-secondary sectors who are each playing a key role in Alberta’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Led by Ryerson University’s Diversity Institute, the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship and the Ted Rogers School of Management with over 50 partner organizations, the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) is a nation-wide network of researchers, business support organizations, and key stakeholders aiming to reduce barriers and grow women’s entrepreneurship in Canada.
The WEKH Alberta Regional Hub will be led by Mount Royal University and engage with and contribute to both local and national entrepreneurship ecosystems.
