The term “self made” applies to many entrepreneurs, but especially to Catherine Addai. After working for a decade in the corporate sector, she quit her job and hasn’t looked back. She taught herself to design clothing, sew, and to run her own business from her kitchen table, which has grown into her label Kaela Kay. Catherine’s boutique offers ready-made garments as well as custom design and sewing services. Her designs pay tribute to her Ghanian roots, featuring bright colours and patterns with a signature feminine flare. Kaela Kay has garnered international recognition, with Catherine’s garments being worn by icons including Janet Mock and Ava DuVernay.
