Assessing Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Law: Why are these Important for Graduate Students in Indonesia?

Entrepreneurial leadership is a relatively new and growing area of interest and study. This kind of leadership plays a critical role in the success of the new business venture. Recognizing something as new, of course, requires a foundational knowledge base. Meanwhile, on the one hand, the symbiosis that exists between entrepreneurship and the law is of paramount importance in accommodating and advancing the freedom to innovate, which may lead to incentivize the commercialization of entrepreneurial works, such as new venture creation. And on the other hand, a number of scholars see the process of new venture creation lies at the heart of the most definition of Entrepreneurship Education (EE), even though its definition varies and is to some degree contested. Given the importance to promote entrepreneurial leadership and the law at the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Indonesia, this study is offered as an invitation to a conversation about the way in which entrepreneurship educators think or might think, about entrepreneurial leadership and the law for graduate students. The author utilized the Management Competency Inventory (MCI) as a basis for conceptualizing the entrepreneurial leadership and the law in the context of EE, particularly for the graduate students within the business management area. This study was carried out from the beginning of the academic year 2015 until the end of 2016 at the Master in Management program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Telkom University Indonesia. The author provides a new concept which may in line with the long-term strategic plan of Telkom University, stated as National Excellence Entrepreneurial University in 2028, the World Class Entrepreneurial University in 2033 and the Global Entrepreneurial University in 2038. This new concept may also serve as the starting point to rethink the new landscape of EE at HEIs in Indonesia in order to promote graduate students to be the next wave of Indonesian educated entrepreneurs.
