Emily Joanasie

Emily Joanasie is an Inuit seamstress in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She runs a fabric and textiles shop called Miqsuqta!, which supplies fabrics for Inuit crafters. Emily works with Commander materials, cotton, canvas, furs, sealskin, and other fabrics. She left her teaching career to launch her shop in 2019. Her transition into entrepreneurship began after she had her second child and she wanted to find a way to stay home with her family. She has been sewing for over 15 years, making parkas and jackets, sealskin items, and jewelry. In 2020, Emily contributed an original men’s parka design to the Project Atigi line, a collaboration between Canada Goose and Inuit seamstresses and craftspeople. In 2021, she participated in the Territories Pow Wow Pitch, where Miqsuqta! was a finalist.
