Karennotakies Barnes

Karennotakies Barnes is a Mohawk artist from the Turtle Clan of Akwesasne, Ontario. She is the owner and designer of Three Sisters Designs, where she sells pieces such as beadwork and apparel. Karennotakies specializes in the traditional Haudenosaunee style of raised beadwork. She learned how to sew, bead, and work with leather from her grandmother, who is the inspiration for Karennotakies’s entrepreneurial journey. Her goal is to have her work represented in the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ontario. She usually sells her work when she is traveling with her two sons for their sports tournaments. Karennotakies’s business is listed in the Native Women’s Association of Canada’s #BeTheDrum Indigenous Women’s Business Directory.
