The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) is a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1988, in Calgary, with a mission to provide immigrants and economically disadvantaged individuals with a solid foothold in Canada and afford them opportunities to grow into productive, confident and contributing Canadians. TIES accomplishes this by providing innovative language education, customized employment training and placement, and integration services based on best practices.

TIES is proposing to create an entrepreneurship development program focused on new immigrant women to provide business development skills, personalized support and mentorship, training on navigating the legal and regulatory maze of business start-ups, access to accounting training, networking and marketing services. The goal is to promote new immigrant women’s business ventures by providing an opportunity to develop supportive relationships with like-minded entrepreneurs. The TIES program will address the main gap researched and identified by the organization as a lack of community and cultural awareness and sensitivity towards immigrant women in making new business support solutions more approachable and relatable.

We are actively looking for collaborative partners outside of Alberta for this WES grant application. If your organization has the capacity for this type of program please email me at roberttoth@immigrant-education.ca to see how we may be able to work together to support new immigrant women in becoming successful entrepreneurs.
