Confident in a rich trapping heritage and the practicality of fur for warmth, Brenda Dragon set out to create Aurora Heat in 2015. Influenced by her Setsuné (grandmother in Dënesųłiné), a talented seamstress sewing with furs and hides most of her life, embodying a quality that Brenda believes cannot be replicated by short-lasting synthetic materials or fast fashion. Aurora Heat is an Indigenous and women-led social enterprise that manufactures and sells natural, reusable, 100% biodegradable hand, foot, and body warmers. Brenda aspires to share her Indigenous worldview by demonstrating environmental sustainability through the responsible sourcing of furs, zero-waste manufacturing, and a commitment to preserving the interdependence between all living things. She was named 1 of 4 Indigenous Designers to Know by SNEWS, a U.S. outdoor publication.
