Carrie Armstrong is the owner of multiple businesses in Alberta. She is the co-owner of Kikawinaw Tea, a brand that makes carbonated, home-brewed tea with gin. Carrie is Métis, born in Hinton, Alberta. She and her sister Kelly co-founded Kikawinaw Tea, inspired by their grandmother’s home-brewed recipe. Their product adds wildrose gin and bubbles to the original recipe, which contains plants, herbs, and wild berries. The company name, Kikawinaw, is Cree for Mother Nature. The sisters were inspired by the Indigenous tradition of using fermented fruit in ceremonies. Carrie is also the owner of Mother Earth Essentials, a bath and beauty brand that uses wild edible and medicinal plants that can be collected in the Prairies. This business, which Carrie built from the ground up, was also founded in honour of her grandmother.
