Épicerie LOCO is Québec’s first chain of zero-waste ecological grocery stores. The company was founded in 2014 by four classmates from the Université du Québec à Montréal: Andreanne Laurin, Dr. Sophie Maccario, Marie-Soleil L’Allier, and Sylvie Girard. After realizing that Québec did not have zero-waste grocery stores, the four founders decided to build their own and help their customers develop their zero-waste profiles. Since 2016, LOCO has established four grocery stores around Québec, as well as an online shopping service. As a woman-founded company, the four founders of Épicerie LOCO were honoured with the BMO Celebrating Women Grant in 2022. Marie-Soleil L’Allier is a co-founder of Épicerie LOCO, and she is currently a doctoral candidate in environmental sciences at UQAM.
