Sheila Flaherty is the founder and Chef of Sijjakkut, an-Inuit owned culinary tourism venture in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Sheila is dedicated to sharing her culture with Canada and the rest of the world, especially her innovations in traditional inuksuit (country food). Her company showcases foods that are typically found in Nunavut, such as cloudberries, caribou, arctic surf clams, and arctic char. Sheila plans to establish herself as a leader in the Indigenous culinary industry. She was the first Inuk chef on MasterChef Canada, and she collaborated on the menu for Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s A Taste of the Arctic at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. In 2021, her business was a semi-finalist in the Territories Pow Wow Pitch.
