Shirley McLean

Shirley McLean is the co-founder of Wapanatahk Media, a new Indigenous-owned production company that focuses on bringing First Nation stories to the mainstream. Shirley is of Tlingit and Tagish descent from the Dakl’aweidi Killer Whale clan and has a background in producing, directing, and editing. The company aims to bring Indigenous stories to broadcast television and provide more access to support for Indigenous talent behind the scenes. Wapanatahk Media creates media with factual content and has plans to expand to scripted and animated productions in the future. The company is dedicated to offering apprenticeship opportunities and bringing in interns to help build the industry and carry on the legacy of Indigenous producers and filmmakers. Shirley was selected as a Top 25 Women of Influence by Women of Influence+ in 2022.
