Tarissa Woolaston

LAYERED by Rissa is a Black woman-owned custom cakes business in Edmonton, Alberta. Their CEO is Tarissa Woolaston, a self-taught cake artist who has been baking cakes for the last five years. Her business is entirely women-staffed and home-based, and she makes cakes for clients based on their individual needs and events. Tarissa founded her business amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when she realized that people needed cakes for at-home celebrations. She also ensures that her business gives back to the community by donating to local non-profit organizations. Tarissa was an Entrepreneur of the Year nominee in Diversity Magazine’s 2022 AC Awards, which celebrates Afro-Canadian business excellence in Alberta.
