During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarn Tyanuth’s restaurant Dumpling Drop was met with overwhelming success, delivering 250 bags of dumplings per week out of Victoria, BC. Behind its popularity is a deeply personal motivation for Tarn, who started Dumpling Drop to support her mother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016. Tarn brings over 20 years of restaurant industry experience to the table, and she advertises her dumplings as locally made, inspired by her Thai roots. Her restaurant is a way for her to connect with the Thai community in Victoria, and more importantly, with her mother, who rolls dumplings with Tarn at Dumpling Drop. In her pandemic-era success, Tarn and her team at Dumpling Drop raised funds for the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. Her business has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce’s Award for New Business in 2021, as well as the 2020 Tasting Victoria People’s Choice Award for Favourite New Restaurant.
