In the face of unprecedented challenges, Canadian women played a leading role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet women entrepreneurs, particularly those at the intersection of overlapping marginalized identities, were disproportionately affected by the pandemic and continue to encounter barriers to their recovery and success.

Today the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, announced additional WEKH funding alongside the launch of our annual report, The State of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Canada 2021.

The report builds on last year’s research with close attention to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges faced by diverse women entrepreneurs, the inclusive innovation ecosystem, and emerging initiatives to support women entrepreneurs. It concludes with actionable recommendations for next year.
