Bernice Kootoo Clarke

Bernice is the founder and owner of Uasau Soap, a family-run soap business based in Iqaluit. The name originates from the pronunciation of “wash” by Baffin Island Inuit in their early interactions with English whalers centuries ago. All of their small batch products are handcrafted in from start to finish – and hand-packed and shipped by Bernice and her husband. Their products are made from locally-sourced ingredients based in sustainable and traditional Indigenous practices, including Bowhead whale oil from community hunts and lichen.
