Erica Lugt

Erica Lugt is an Inuvialuk artist from Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories. She is the founder of She Was A Free Spirit, where she makes jewelry inspired by her Inuvialuit culture, especially Inuvialuit dancing parkas. Erica comes from a line of Gruben seamstresses, and she is committed to creating wearable fashion that is both traditional and modern. Her pieces have been featured in Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto since 2018 and Paris Fashion Week 2019. She also co-coordinated the 2019 Arctic Fashion Show as part of the Great Northern Arts Festival Society in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. In 2021, she competed in the Territories Pow Wow Pitch, where her business finished as a semi-finalist.
