Janelle Clyke is the owner and operator of Janelle’s Upcycled and New Fashions, a downtown New Glasgow business established in 2020. She got her start in fashion by sewing her own clothes as a teenager and later as a Student Support Worker, where she began modifying unwanted fabrics into custom designs for students. Janelle has now expanded her skills to include custom vinyl prints and crocheting. Her business has a strong commitment to social justice through the incorporation of causes she feels passionately. However, the main mandate of the business is to stop textiles from going into landfills by recreating clothing and reducing fabric waste. Janelle’s Upcycled and New Fashions also accepts second-hand clothing for repurposing. Janelle’s work was recognized with a 2021 Mobius Award from Divert NS for the positive impact her business makes on the environment.
