Katherine Backman

When Katherine Backman became a vegan in 2016, she found the choices for non-dairy desserts in the market less than satisfying. So, she created Nora’s Non-Dairy Ice Cream – named after her cat – with her partner, Tyler Bothwell. It took Backman eight months of experimenting before settling on four flavours options for their cashew-based ice cream. Since then, she’s been fortunate to taste the sweet rewards of her hard work and perseverance. Not only has Backman successfully gotten Nora’s into some 250 retailers in B.C. and Alberta, she’s also sold more than 100,000 pints of the non-dairy ice cream. Besides her business leadership, Backman is passionate about the environment, health & wellness, and plant-based living. In 2020, Backman made Vancouver’s 30 Under 30 list.
