Lisa-Marie Coocoo

Lisa-Marie Coocoo

Inspired by her personal experience, Lisa-Marie Coocoo is the Founder of Opoho Centre in Trois-Rivières. Like many Indigenous youth from remote/northern communities, Lisa-Marie relocated from her home community in order to pursue her education at a young age. The Opoho Center offers culturally appropriate accommodation, support and supervision services focused on alleviating challenges experienced by Atikamewk youth. Main challenges often result in increased drop-out rates and include, but are not limited to, feelings of isolation, financial issues, and trouble adjusting to the urban lifestyle. Opoho Centre’s mission is to provide Atikamewk communities and youth with a culturally appropriate environment in order to promote academic success. Lisa-Marie graduated in 2014, having studied Community Recreation and Leadership at Laflèche College in Trois-Rivières.
