Mélanie Lumsden

Mélanie Lumsden and Widia Larivière are the Founders of Mikana, an Indigenous non-profit organization based out of Montréal. Both children of an Indigenous and non-Indigenous parent, they witnessed the gaps existing between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds and wanted to contribute to breaking down the barriers between these worlds. In 2015, Mikana was founded as the result of several years of mutual collaboration and involvement in action against racism and discrimination against Indigenous peoples. Mikana provides various programs, training, and workshops that work towards their vision of an egalitarian society where racism, discrimination and ignorance are a thing of the past, and where Indigenous and non-Indigenous people will work together, as equals.
