Jolene Laskey is the CEO of Wabanaki Maple, a company that makes maple syrup products in Neqotkuk (Tobique) First Nation of New Brunswick. Her Wolastoqey roots inspired her to start her business, which puts her own spin on Indigenous tradition. Wabanaki Maple innovates barrel-aged maple syrups with bourbon, whisky, and toasted oak. The business draws attention to the Indigenous tradition of savoury sap, which later came to be known as maple syrup. Jolene’s goal for her business is to preserve the environment and help Indigenous communities thrive. In 2021, her business pitch for Wabanaki Maple won the Atlantic division of the Pow Wow Pitch.
