In Vancouver’s Chinatown you can find Massy Books, a bookstore that uniquely doubles as a performance space and an art gallery. Indigenous-owned and a member of the Stó:lō Business Association, Massy Books operates on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and occupied territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Its owner is Patricia Massy, a member of the As’in’i’wa’chi Ni’yaw Cree nation. Patricia established Massy Books as a community space for book lovers who can share conversations and curiosity that only literature can spark. A recipient of the BMO Celebrating Women Grant in 2022, Massy Books is committed to sustainability and accessibility, shipping its books in recycled paper, and ensuring accessible spaces in the store.
