Taalrumiq (English name Christina King) is an Inuvialuk and Gwich’in artist, fashion designer, content creator, and cultural educator from Tuktuuyaqtuuq, Northwest Territories. She runs a self-named business called Taalrumiq, where she displays her fashion designs and fine art, offers cultural education services, and creates digital content that shares her Inuvialuit culture with the world. Taalrumiq is featured in the Native Women’s Association of Canada’s #BeTheDrum Indigenous Women’s Business Directory. Her work was especially popular during the COVID-19 pandemic when she designed a set of sealskin pandemic masks called “Inuvialuit Fortitude,” which were featured on tour with the Breathe: Creating Resilience Through Traditional Art Exhibit. She was also commissioned to create a sealskin pandemic mask called “Unmasking Identity: Reclaiming Inuit Identity in Modern Times,” featured in the Unmasking the Pandemic: From Personal Protection to Personal Expression Exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
