Tania Koenig-Gauchier is a Cree-Métis producer and co-founder of Wapanatahk Media, a Vancouver-based production company specializing in Indigenous storytelling. With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment and broadcast industry, Tania and her partner, Shirley McLean, have set out to revitalize their passion for their profession and bring Indigenous stories to the forefront of mainstream media. The company’s first series, Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet, premiered on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network in May of 2022 and highlights a young Métis woman’s journey to becoming a veterinarian. With a focus on gender parity, 10 of the show’s 15 key creators are female, reflecting the strong voices of women in Indigenous cultures. Tania believes representation matters and aims to showcase the diversity and richness of Indigenous cultures through authentic representation in mainstream media. In 2022, Tania was recognized as one of the Top 25 Women of Influence by Women of Influence+.
