Umeeda Switlo

Umeeda Switlo, along with her daughter Nareena, co-founded Naledo Foods and Beverages to create a line of products from ethically-sourced turmeric and support small business owners. Umeeda is no stranger to founding and running a successful business. Her late husband noticed her entrepreneurial skills and asked her to create a business plan for a child care facility with a capacity for 150 children. She then proceeded to successfully acquire a loan from the bank through this proposal. She sold the business 30 years ago and it is still running to this day. Today, her company is dedicated to sustainable production methods by paying small-scale growers 7.5 times the fair trade rate for their product, which can now be found across North America and the Bahamas. Umeeda prides herself on creating delicious and healthy products for consumers whilst empowering the communities in which they are sourced and produced.
