Tara started SmartSweets in her kitchen with a gummy bear mould from Amazon in an attempt to reduce her intake of excess sugar. Two months after her kitchen experimentation, she dropped out of college and began pitching her healthier alternative candy product to retailers. At the age of 21, she had limited financing available, but persisted in her personal outreach to retailers. Her products fill a gap in the market for candy using no sugar, sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners, or GMO ingredients and can be found in major grocery chains and over 3000 stores across Canada.
